The Chicago suburb of Maywood's authorities have accused Brown of brutally murdering his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown, and hiding her lifeless body nearby her shared residence in September. Relatives reported their disappearance on the 16th, and law enforcement discovered Myrtle's body wrapped in a bag less than 50 meters from their home's back door, according to records and court documents.

A preliminary hearing concerning the case is scheduled for January 24th in Maywood.

Law enforcement announced that Brown flew to Mexico on the 15th, and he was apprehended by Mexican authorities early October. He was deported to San Diego and subsequently arrested by U.S. Marshals at the end of October, before being transferred to Maywood for trial. A judge from Illinois ordered Brown's detention without bail, citing the danger he posed to the community.

According to Natalia Derevyanny, a spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the medical examiner found Myrtle Brown sustained fatal injuries resulting from the assault and classified her death as a homicide. Prosecution documents submitted in October stated she died from blunt-force trauma and was found abandoned outside her home.

Brown's other son, who remained unnamed in the documents, confirmed communication with her on October 15th, growing alarmed after she failed to respond to his messages on the 14th.

On the missing persons report, the son searched their shared home early in the morning of the 16th and found it deserted, undisturbed, and devoid of any signs of struggle. Upon family members reporting their going missing, the police conducted a search, but it failed to locate or contact either Brown or his mother.

As the day progressed, neighbors began surveying the area for signs of Brown and his mother, with a nearby resident discovering Myrtle's body less than 50 meters from the house.

Emptied cleaning supplies and missing items were found during a property search, including Myrtle Brown's iPad, credit cards, and mobile phone. The supplier of Ajax cleaner mentioned that traces of it were found in the drain of the bathtub, suggesting recent cleaning. Surveillance cameras in the vicinity captured burning brown items in a fire pit the night of the 14th, and charred material was later found at the same site by the police.

Initially reported as a high school graduate who played defensive back for the University of Notre Dame, signing as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots in 2010, the former NFL player spent seven NFL seasons with teams such as the Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills.

Brown's family in the United States expresses their deep sadness, and they are cooperating with the authorities in their investigation. Brown's legal counsel assured that they will provide a robust defense during trial.
