Former NFL athlete Jessie Lemonier, once a stellar player at Liberty University, passes away at the young age of 25.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the football community and beyond are mourning the loss of former NFL linebacker Jessie Lemonier, who passed away at the tender age of 25 on January 26, 2023.
Lemonier, born on January 31, 1997, made his mark in the NFL, most notably with the Detroit Lions. Although the specifics of his career statistics and history are not extensively documented, his impact was significant enough to be specifically mentioned as a former Detroit Lions player.
The Lions, along with the USFL, have expressed their shock and sadness at Lemonier's passing. In a statement, the Lions highlighted Lemonier as a model teammate and a great person, while the Birmingham-based organization praised him as a gifted football player and a wonderful individual.
Lemonier's football journey began at Liberty University, where he helped the program reach its first-ever bowl game, the 2019 Treatment Bowl. In this game, he was named MVP after registering an impressive 8 tackles and 2 sacks in a win over Georgia Southern.
After spending some time with Ventura (Calif.) College, Lemonier went undrafted in 2020 but signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He later played for the Detroit Lions and was drafted by the XFL's Arlington Renegades in November but chose to sign with the USFL instead. In the USFL, he was traded to the Birmingham Stallions on New Year's Eve.
Tragically, Lemonier was released by the Lions in May 2022 and later joined the Arizona Cardinals, but his life was cut short before he could continue his football journey.
