Champions League Final: Rummenigge Yields No Regret Over Bayern's Exit, Hails Former Club

FC Bayern's CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, expresses no remorse regarding the club's missed opportunity to reach the Champions League final. In an interview with the German Press Agency, he acknowledged the team's subpar performance in the group stage and stated that their goal initially was to secure a top-eight finish, but the three losses thwarted that ambition.

This Saturday, the final battle will unfold in Munich, where Rummenigge's previous team, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain will compete.

Rummenigge voiced that lethal coordination is vital in reaching the final, lamenting that the elusive combination was absent in Bayern's journey. The team, coached by Vincent Kompany, was ousted after a 1-2 home loss in Milan, following a 2-2 draw in the second leg of the quarter-finals. Munich had previously defeated Bayer Leverkusen with a striking 3-0 victory at home and a 2-0 away triumph.

Two former Bayern players will be returning to the Allianz Arena with Inter: Benjamin Pavard and goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who were key figures in the semi-finals. "Pavard opened the door to the semis with his header during the quarter-finals, while Sommer was nothing short of extraordinary against Barcelona," recalled Rummenigge.

Sommer left Bayern in January 2023 to make room for the injured Manuel Neuer and later transferred to Inter. Rummenigge commended Sommer, who resided above him in Munich during his tenure, stating, "His exceptional play at Inter Milan demonstrates his remarkable quality, particularly at his advanced age."

With sentimental feelings for Inter from his playing days, Rummenigge hopes for an outstanding showdown, though he expresses hope for Inter to snatch the prestigious trophy after a fifteen-year wait. "I would be thrilled if Inter finally offered their fans this coveted prize," he concluded.
