Former Local Government Boss Accuses Fayose of Dismantling PDP and Imminent Takeover of APC

In the political landscape of Ekiti State, a discussions debate has arisen over the relationship between three key figures: Governor Biodun Oyebanji, his predecessor Kayode Fayemi, and former governor Ayodele Fayose. Governor Oyebanji, who took office in 2022, has appointed over 170 loyalists into his government, a significant number of whom are believed to be former allies of Ayodele Fayose. The Egbeda Local Government Area, in particular, has the most appointees, with 20 out of the 170 positions. Ayodele Fayose has maintained that Oyebanji's election victory was secured through Fayemi's political machinery, not through his own efforts. He claims that many party members who toiled for the success of the present administration are suffering from neglect, while Fayose enjoys patronage from the present government. Fayose has also questioned why he, who has lost relevance in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), should be celebrated within the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the expense of genuine party members who worked for the party's victory. He asserts that he would not have romanced Oyebanji if the PDP were in power or if Oyebanji had not become governor. Femi Ayodele, a chieftain of the APC in Ekiti State, has expressed concerns over the alleged growing influence of Fayose in Oyebanji's administration. He warns that rewarding Fayose with patronage risks alienating loyal APC members. Ayodele accuses Jide Awe, a former Ekiti APC chairman, of aligning with Fayose out of 'politics of convenience.' Jide Awe, in defence of Oyebanji's open-door style, faulted Fayemi's position, saying that politics is about numbers. However, Ayodele insists that Fayemi was right to raise alarm over PDP's influence in Ekiti APC. The debate was sparked by remarks credited to Jide Awe, who had criticised Fayemi for cautioning against PDP's infiltration into Ekiti APC. Ayodele described Awe's attack on Fayemi as 'misplaced, malicious, unfortunate, and opportunist.' In response to the ongoing discussions debate, Ayodele has questioned the legitimacy of celebrating Fayose in the APC, given his past actions against Oyebanji, including forcing him into political exile and causing him hardship. He dismisses the argument that 'we need everybody in politics.' As the political dynamics in Ekiti State continue to evolve, this debate serves as a reminder of the complexities and nuances that underpin political alliances and power shifts.
