Debt Repaid: PSG Goalkeeper Matvey Safonov settles child support dispute for 66 million rubles
Former "Krasnodar" captain, Safonov, is behind on alimony payments to the tune of 629 rubles.
Football action takes a backseat as Paris Saint-Germain's goalkeeper, Matvey Safonov, wraps up a personal matter – a long-standing child support dispute with his ex-wife. The settlement, estimated at around 66 million rubles, has allowed him to lift travel restrictions and join the Russian national team before friendlies against Nigeria and Belarus.
The legal battle between Safonov and his ex-wife, Anastasia Klyueva, escalated in June 2024. A court order demanded Safonov to transfer 25% of his earnings for his daughter's maintenance. Klyueva alleged that the footballer was trying to evade his responsibilities and even snatch their child[4][5]. Despite several appeals, the court's decision stood firm.
Angry disputes over property led to the significant debt accumulation. Safonov's attorney claimed that he had transferred an apartment as child support compensation, but Klyueva apparently refused this settlement. Reports suggest this disagreement was covered by local media outlet "KP-Kuban"[6].
Now, the dust seems to have settled, with only 629 rubles remaining as the footballer's debt, indicating a full payment[7].
Safonov arrived in Moscow on June 4, towering over the clamor with the coveted Champions League trophy in his possession.
In the past, the former FC Krasnodar captain, Safonov, shared details of his meeting with President Emmanuel Macron following PSG’s victory[8].
