Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar is displayed in the State Capitol rotunda prior to his funeral service

Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, who was the last Republican governor in the state to be elected to more than one term, passed away on Sunday at the age of 79 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Edgar served as the governor of Illinois from 1991 to 1999 and is remembered as someone who served the state well. This weekend, the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects to Edgar at the Illinois State Capitol Building.

On Friday, visitors can sign a memorial book between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Illinois State Capitol Building. Edgar lies in state at the Capitol Building during this time, and visitors will be able to pay their respects to the late governor.

The memorial services for Jim Edgar will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Central Baptist Church in Springfield. The event is open for visitors to attend, and the pallbearers for the funeral have not been publicly disclosed.
