Edan Alexander, a former captive of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, has made a heartfelt plea for the release of the captives still held in the region, during a speech at a New York event hosted by the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF).

Alexander, who was held captive for 548 days before being freed in May, described his time in the tunnels under the coastal strip as the hardest days of his life. His captivity involved days of struggle, pain, and separation from his family.

During his captivity, Hamas distributed captives across several neighborhoods in Gaza City, an attempt to halt the Israeli offensive. The claim that Hamas distributed the prisoners in different residential neighborhoods of Gaza City was made by Hamas itself, specifically by the military wing of the organization, the Kassam Brigades.

It is estimated that around 20 captives are still alive in the Gaza Strip. Alexander expressed concern for their welfare and made a plea for them not to be forgotten.

After his release, Alexander affirmed that his story does not end with survival, but continues with service. He plans to return to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the organization to which he previously belonged.

Alexander, who holds both Israeli and US citizenship, concluded his speech with the phrase 'Until victory.' He was one of over 250 people, including soldiers, kidnapped during the Hamas and extremist attacks from the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.

FIDF is an organization that supports Israeli soldiers, and the event was a testament to the organization's commitment to helping those who have served their country. Alexander's announcement is a reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers and the ongoing need for support for those who have been affected by conflict.
