Paris Saint-Germain Star Achraf Hakimi Faces Rape Charges
Football player Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain is under investigation for rape allegations in France. The 26-year-old Moroccan national, who previously played for Borussia Dortmund, is accused of an incident that occurred in February 2023.
The rape allegations have been reported by multiple news sources, including "Le Parisien" and sports channel RMC Sport. Despite the woman not filing a complaint, the police informed the prosecutor's office, initiating an investigation. French prosecutors have now officially requested that Hakimi be tried in the criminal court in Hauts-de-Seine (Nanterre).
Hakimi's lawyer, Fanny Colin, has stated that her client denies the allegations. She has described the prosecutors' request as "incomprehensible and senseless." If convicted, Hakimi could face a sentence of up to 15 years.
The investigating judge will decide whether the case against Hakimi will proceed to trial. In the meantime, Hakimi has been placed under judicial supervision. The legal representative of the alleged victim has expressed relief at the prosecutors' decision to seek a trial.
Apart from the rape allegations, "Le Parisien" has also reported accusations of extortion against Hakimi. However, these claims have not been confirmed.
Paris Saint-Germain has supported Hakimi following the rape allegations. The club has not made any further comments on the matter.
