Forest fires in Yakutia come to a close

A total of 683 firefighters and 43 units of equipment are currently engaged in the ongoing battle against forest fires in the Yakutia (Sakha) Republic. As of early August 2025, there are 18 active forest fires covering approximately 76.8 thousand hectares.

According to a report by Andrey Konoplev, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Nature Management, and Forestry of Yakutia, firefighters managed to extinguish fires on about 5.54 thousand hectares over the previous day.

The firefighting efforts are extensive, with aviation also being employed in the operations. However, no updates indicate complete containment or the extinguishing of all fires in Yakutia, so the issue remains a serious ongoing concern in the region.

The emergency situation of municipal significance is currently in effect in the Viluisky, Verkhoyansky, Verkhnevilyuisky, Suntarsky, and Olekminsky districts. Six forest fires were localized in the Verkhnevilyuisky, Viluisky, and Olekminsky districts. Six forest fires and one landscape fire were extinguished over the past 24 hours in the Verkhnevilyuisky, Verkhoyansky, Kobyaysky, Suntarsky, Eveno-Bytantaysky, and Ust-Yansky districts.

Both federal and regional emergency situations in forests are still in effect in the region. The forest fires were reported in various districts, including Verkhnevilyuisky, Verkhoyansky, Kobyaysky, Suntarsky, Eveno-Bytantaysky, Ust-Yansky, Viluisky, and Olekminsky.

The combination of extensive forest fire activity and recent severe flooding reflects a challenging environmental situation exacerbated by climate extremes in the Sakha Republic. This difficult situation underscores the importance of ongoing efforts to combat these fires and protect the region's environment.
