U.S. trade policy viewed as burdensome by Schwesig regarding foreign trade - Foreign trade feels encumbered by the customs policy of the United States, according to SUSESIG's perspective

In a significant move, Manuela Schwesig, the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, highlighted the importance of free trade for the global economy and prosperity at her 5th Export Evening of the state government. Around 140 representatives of export-oriented companies and industry associations were invited to the precast concrete plant in Kavelstorf near Rostock.

Schwesig emphasized that export-oriented companies need reliable framework conditions and a trade policy that encourages and supports. She based her concerns on principles of openness, fairness, and rules that everyone follows.

The first quarter of 2025 showed a positive trend for foreign trade in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Exports from the state increased to around 2.4 billion euros, about 3 percent above the previous year's level. The industrial sector, in particular, showed an increase, while the decline continued in the food industry.

Despite the difficult economic situation throughout Germany, foreign trade in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has managed to stabilize. Schwesig stands for an economic policy that connects rather than divides.

Looking ahead, the Baltic Sea Business Day will take place in April 2026, involving Poland and the Scandinavian and Baltic coastal countries. The German-Latvian Economic Day is scheduled for Rostock on September 26th.

However, Schwesig expressed concern about the impact of US trade policy on global trade. Despite extensive search results, there are no available reports specifically connecting her concerns about US trade policy in the current data.

The state government supports companies that have entered the export market and those who want to do so. This includes financial assistance for trade fair appearances.

The announcements and statements made by Schwesig at her 5th Export Evening of the state government serve as a testament to her commitment to fostering a thriving export sector in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
