Foreign powers aim to exert influence over the resolution of conflict within Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been making headlines recently, with a significant diplomatic development taking place on 27 June 2025. After years of cross-border hostilities and armed insurgencies, the DRC and Rwanda signed a peace accord, mediated by the United States. This agreement marks a rare diplomatic breakthrough amid longstanding tensions and failed prior peace efforts led by various regional bodies like the African Union.

The overlapping involvement and alignment of mediation by the US, Qatar, African Union, and humanitarian organizations show a merging and coordination of regional and international bodies toward achieving peace in eastern DRC. The focus now is on implementing these agreements and achieving a lasting peace and stability in the region.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Tanzania beat Burkina Faso 2-0 in the CHAN 2024 opener. Elsewhere, discussions around dysmenorrhea continue, and President Kigame of Rwanda has made a strong statement against the KRA over Sh20 million tax debt claims, labelling it as "evil".
