Foreign Office (FO) states that SMDA is not aimed at any third nation.

In a testament to the unique and enduring bond between the two united nations, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) in 2025. This defensive pact formalizes decades-old and robust defence partnership between the two countries, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.

The SMDA, designed to contribute to regional peace, security, and stability, reflects the shared vision of the leadership of both countries to take the bilateral relationship to new heights. The agreement is defensive in nature and not directed against any third country.

Pakistan's position on Afghanistan has been clear, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stating that they want it to be a good neighbour. The spokesperson has communicated to Kabul through the diplomatic channel to stop Afghan soil from being used against Pakistan.

The relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia lives in the hearts of the people of the two countries. The people of Pakistan have special sentiments for Saudi Arabia, the land of Mecca and Madinah. This sentiment is echoed in the warm welcome extended to Sikh pilgrims from India and across the world under the 1974 protocol at the Kartarpur shrine, which is ready and clean to receive them. There is no embargo from Pakistan's side to host Sikhs from anywhere.

The bilateral relationship between the two countries enjoys a long and distinguished history of brotherhood and cooperation. This brotherhood was evident during the downing of Indian jets by Pakistan, an undisputed fact, as both nations stood together.

Pakistan is deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat, former Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. The nation pays tribute to Prof. Bhat's lifelong commitment to the Kashmir Cause and conveys its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

As the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia evolves, so does the commitment of both nations to work together for peace, security, and stability in the region. Ambassador Shafqat has announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the UN General Assembly on September 26, providing an opportunity for both nations to reaffirm their commitment to the global community.

In the face of external commentary, the spokesperson has refrained from commenting on statements made by US President Donald Trump about retaking Bagran airbase in Kabul, as well as statements made by former US diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad. The focus remains on strengthening the bond between the two nations and working towards a peaceful and prosperous future.
