Foreign ministers of the European Union pay a visit to Lviv for Europe Day celebration
On May 9,Europe Day, nearly three dozen European foreign ministers and diplomats journeyed to Lviv, Ukraine, to express solidarity with the embattled nation, under siege by Russia. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude for the European partners on Telegram, affirming, "It's crucial and symbolic that European allies stand side by side with Ukraine on Europe Day."
Apart from symbolizing unity, the delegation participated in discussions concerning the battle lines and Ukraine's armament requirements. Notably, Shmyhal acknowledged the EU for providing one billion euros to support Ukraine's arms manufacturing sector.
The trip witnessed the presence of 35 top diplomats, including Germany's new Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who paid respects at Lychakiv Cemetery alongside their Ukrainian counterparts. The cemetery holds the remains of numerous Ukrainian citizens killed since the 2022 Russian invasion. Additionally, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced an upcoming meeting between EU foreign ministers and the Core Group for a Special Tribunal against the Russian leadership.
