Foreign Minister of Poland Issues Warning to Putin: "Ponder on the Actions We May Take"
** Headline: Polish FM Sikorski Takes on Putin with a Warning and Subtle Threat**
In a bold move, Poland's Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski, has issued a clear warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin during an interview with BBC World. Speaking from the United States, Sikorski emphasized the strength of the West and hinted that Putin should think twice before making his next move.
Regarding the potential threat from Russia to Poland, Sikorski was cautious, stating that he didn't believe Putin would be foolish enough to attack a NATO member state. However, he quickened to add that Putin had already shown that he was reckless enough to invade Ukraine and was now being recognized as a war criminal.
French President Emmanuel Macron's remarks about the possibility of French soldiers in Ukraine didn't go unnoticed either. Sikorski suggested it was wise to keep Putin guessing about the West's response, rather than ruling out certain options. Another hint was dropped when Sikorski mentioned that Poland is spending the highest percentage of its GDP on defense within NATO, hinting at a possible future action.
Sikorski on American Aid for Ukraine
Sikorski expressed his satisfaction with the recent approval of military aid for Ukraine by the American Congress. He asserted that Ukraine urgently needs anti-aircraft missiles to protect its infrastructure, power plants, and industry. Sikorski believed that it would be more cost-effective to spend money defending Ukraine than to rebuild it in the event of an attack.
He acknowledged that the aid could have arrived sooner but was quick to express his gratitude for the aid that was on its way. Sikorski further suggested that Putin should recognize his invasion as a mistake and make a new calculation, considering that aid would be provided to Ukraine as long as necessary.
The End of the War in Ukraine
According to Sikorski, the war would only end when Putin comes to the realization that the cost of continuing it, both in terms of human lives and financial expenses, exceeds the objective he is pursuing. However, Sikorski admitted that this realization might take some time to sink in.
Sikorski believed that the European Union could do more in terms of military aid for Ukraine, despite the total value of EU financial aid for Ukraine already surpassing that of the United States.
