Facing a Faux Pas at the UN

In a cringe-worthy moment, former Pakistan Foreign Minister and PPP Chairperson, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, found himself in a pickle during a UN press briefing. His accusations of Muslims being 'demonized' in India, made in reference to Kashmir, were exposed as baseless by a foreign journalist.

The heated exchange unfolded as Zardari claimed that recent terrorist attacks in Kashmir were being exploited to persecute Muslims in India. The sharp-witted journalist swiftly countered, "Sir, I've attended briefings on both sides, and I recall Muslim Indian military officers, like Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, conducting briefings for Operation Sindoor on the Indian side," embarrassing Zardari.

To the journalist's credit, Zardari admitted, "As far as the operations are concerned, you're absolutely right."

Currently, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, spearheading a nine-member parliamentary delegation, is in the US to present Pakistan's stance on recent tensions with India. While here, they have had meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the president of the UN General Assembly, and the ambassadors of the 14 countries of the 15-member UN Security Council, including the Chinese and Russian UN envoys, as reported by Geo News. This visit coincides with an Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is in the US to emphasize India's stance on zero-tolerance for terrorism.

Standoff at the UN: Bilawal Bhutto Concedes Pakistan Faces Obstacles in Kashmir Diplomacy

In response to the counterpoint raised by the journalist, it's worth noting that Operation Sindoor was a counter-terror operation initiated by India following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the cross-border tensions that ensued, a ceasefire began on May 10.

This incident shed light on the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, as both countries continue their diplomatic efforts to sway international opinion regarding their respective positions on regional security matters.

The Journalist's response during the UN exchange highlighted that Pakistani claims about Muslims being persecuted in India were incorrect, as they recalled a Muslim Indian military officer being involved in Indian operations like Operation Sindoor. Despite the ongoing diplomatic standoff between India and Pakistan at the UN, it's crucial to acknowledge the Counter-Terror Operation Sindoor initiated by India following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which eventually led to a ceasefire on May 10.
