Foreign Defense Minister of Thailand denies claims of foreign troops aiding Cambodia in conflicts

The Thai-Cambodian border remains a focus of concern, with tensions persisting and 267 border residents at risk of suicide due to the ongoing stress and tension.

Recent rumours and speculations have emerged on social media, suggesting the involvement of Russian mercenaries in Cambodia's conflict with Thailand. However, these claims remain unverified and under investigation by the authorities.

Deputy Defence Minister Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit held a press conference on July 30, stating that the images of supposed foreign soldiers were likely misidentifications of Cambodian military personnel. The initial investigations showed that the soldier in question was, in fact, a Cambodian military personnel, who is also a volleyball player and a well-built individual.

The ongoing investigation regarding the rumours of foreign soldiers aiding Cambodia continues. As of late July 2025, no verification has been made on the authenticity of the audio clip in Russian, allegedly from the Cambodian side near the border areas. No evidence of Russian language communication was found during the initial investigations.

Suspicious activity suggesting possible Russian involvement, such as drone control or training related to Cambodian forces, is still being examined. However, no conclusive evidence has yet substantiated these claims.

Security expert Suchart Bamrungsuk has expressed concerns about Cambodia potentially hiring foreign mercenaries, such as from Russia, to assist in the conflict. Suchart's comments may have been based on available information, possibly from past events like World Military Boxing Championships.

In a separate development, the deployment of South Korean-made guided bombs by Thailand in combat against Cambodia has been reported. Recently, an EOD team destroyed a Cambodian BM-21 rocket found on a road near a civilian area in Sisaket.

As the investigation into the rumours of foreign soldiers aiding Cambodia continues, it is essential to maintain a factual approach and await concrete evidence before drawing conclusions. The authorities are working diligently to verify the authenticity of the claims and ensure the safety and security of the border residents.

The ongoing investigation into suspicious activity on the Thai-Cambodian border raises concerns about potential involvement of foreign mercenaries, such as Russians, in the ongoing conflict. Despite the ongoing probe, no conclusive evidence has yet substantiated these claims.

The health and well-being of the 267 border residents remains at risk due to the ongoing tension and stress, while general news outlets continue to cover the politics of the region, including the border dispute and concerns about foreign interference.
