Foreign contractors undertake projects worth a staggering $6.2 billion globally
In the dynamic world of international construction, Turkish firms have carved out a significant niche, with their expertise in large-scale infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects earning them a top spot among global contractors. Since 1972, Turkish constructors have completed over 12,600 international projects worth a staggering $543.6 billion.
As of 2025, Iraq remains the third-largest market for Turkish constructors, with a total project value of $36.6 billion. Qatar follows closely as the ninth-largest market, with a project value of $20.3 billion. The United Arab Emirates ranks tenth with a project value of $18.8 billion.
The first six months of 2025 saw the Turkish construction sector undertake international projects totalling $6.2 billion. This figure is a testament to the sector's resilience and continued growth, despite the challenges posed by global economic fluctuations.
In recent years, Turkish constructors have been heavily involved in significant infrastructure and oil-related projects in Iraq and Qatar. Large-scale building and infrastructure contracts have been common in Libya and Algeria, while energy and transport infrastructure have been the focus in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian republics. Construction of industrial and residential projects has been prevalent in Russia, and oil and gas-related infrastructure have been key in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
Some European countries have also been recipients of Turkish constructors' urban development and commercial projects. Notably, in 2023, the Turkish construction sector carried out 445 projects with a total value of $28.6 billion.
Road, tunnel, and bridge projects account for 14.1 percent of Turkish constructors' international projects, with railway projects making up 7.1 percent. Residential projects make up 13.4 percent, commercial center projects account for 6.8 percent, and power plants account for 8.5 percent.
Despite the disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine War in 2024, the Turkish construction sector managed to carry out 378 projects with a total value of $31.2 billion. The average value of international construction projects undertaken by the Turkish sector was $82.7 million in 2024, a slight increase from the $64.2 million average in 2023.
In 2021, the average value of international construction projects undertaken by the Turkish sector was $69.3 million. The sector's consistent performance has secured its position among the top 10 countries in annual global construction revenue in 2025.
