Forecasted Weather Conditions: India Meteorological Department (IMD) Predicts Heavy to Extremely Intense Rainfall Over Uttarakhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Additional Regions
=============================================================
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for August 14-19, 2025, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall activity across various parts of India. This rainfall pattern is part of an above-normal monsoon rainfall forecast for the country’s second half of the monsoon season (August-September 2025).
Heavy Rainfall Zones
- Marathwada, West Madhya Pradesh, and Konkan & Goa will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 14-19.
- Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 14-19.
- Saurashtra & Kutch will experience heavy rainfall from August 17-19.
- Bihar will experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on August 14-15.
- Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 14.
- Madhya Maharashtra will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 14 and August 16-19.
- Gujarat Region will experience heavy rainfall from August 14-19.
Potential Risks
The heavy rainfall activity poses several risks, including urban flooding and waterlogging, especially in densely populated areas like Mumbai. Additionally, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in hilly areas such as Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan could increase the risk of landslides and flash floods. Excessive rainfall may also damage standing crops, delay harvesting, and disrupt fieldwork in affected regions.
Stay Alert
Given the heightened vigilance for heavy rainfall-induced hazards like floods and landslides, the IMD urges residents in affected states to stay alert for possible waterlogging, landslides, and flash floods during heavy rainfall days. Farmers are also advised to plan agricultural activities keeping in mind the rainfall forecasts.
IMD's Block-Wise Rainfall Monitoring Initiative
To improve localized forecasts and risk management, the IMD has started a new block-wise rainfall monitoring initiative in August 2025. This initiative aims to provide more accurate and timely information to help mitigate the risks associated with heavy rainfall events.
Temperature and Weather Conditions in Delhi-NCR
Delhi-NCR will remain mostly cloudy with intermittent showers and light to moderate rain throughout August 14-16. The wind direction will shift from SE→NE, and temperatures are expected to be near or below normal during these days. On August 16, the wind speed will range from 5-15 kmph, while on August 15 and 14, it will be 5-15 kmph.
