Forecast of intermittent rain showers accompanied by weather alerts throughout the weekend

In the past few days, several towns in Baden-Württemberg have been hit hard by heavy storms. Weinheim, Edingen-Neckarhausen, Ladenburg, and Offenburg have all experienced cellar flooding and fallen trees.

The storms have been particularly fierce in Mannheim, where trees have fallen onto cars, trams, and damaged overhead lines, causing traffic lights to go out. On Friday and Saturday, the city was battered by heavy storms, with the situation continuing into the night. Firefighters were called to the Franklin district to pump water out of the streets, as the rain refused to drain.

In a nearby area, Offenburg was also affected by a heavy thunderstorm, causing minor flooding and uprooting trees. A tree even fell onto an overhead line at the goods station in Offenburg.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued severe weather warnings due to showers and thunderstorms dominating the weekend. The DWD provides continuous updates on the warning situation in Germany, and county warnings are issued very short-term before the warning events for precision.

According to the DWD, the weather will remain mainly gray, damp, and cool over the holiday weekend, with temperatures not exceeding 22°C in the Upper Rhine Valley. However, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, up to 17°C on the Alb and up to 23°C on the Rhine.

On Sunday, it will continue to be gray and damp initially, with many clouds and showers. But later in the afternoon, the clouds may thin out and rain may ease. On Tuesday night, the sky will often be clear in the south, while it may rain again in the north, with stormy gusts possible on the Black Forest peaks.

The railway line between Zwingenberg and Mosbach-Neckarelz had to be closed due to weather damage, and a replacement service with eight buses has been set up between Eberbach and Seckach. In Mannheim's Oststadt, a tree fell onto a moving tram, but no one was injured. Several underground garages in Weinheim were also affected by the weather damage.

Given the lack of updated data, it is recommended to consult a localized and up-to-date weather service such as the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) or reliable weather forecasting websites/apps for the latest information on storm conditions and forecasts for Mannheim and Offenburg. These sources provide short- and medium-term weather outlooks and warnings for flooding risks.

On a positive note, temperatures will rise up to 26°C on the Rhine on Monday, with increasing dryness and more frequent sunshine expected. Let's hope for better weather in the days to come!

  1. Given the ongoing stormy conditions in Offenburg and Mannheim, it would be prudent to check the weather-forecasting updates from the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) or reliable weather applications for potential storm conditions and flooding risks in these areas.
  2. As the weather remains unpredictable, especially in Baden-Württemberg, it is advisable to monitor the weather frequently, as the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) issues severe weather warnings due to showers and thunderstorms dominating the days ahead.
