Unsettled Weather Across Germany: DWD Warns of Severe Thunderstorms, Storms, and Hail

Forecast Issues Caution on Storms, Thunder, and Hail - Maps Indicate Thunderstorm-Prone Regions - Forecast issued by DWD: Prepare for storms, thunder, and hail; check maps for storm threats' locations.

Get a heads up on the forthcoming weather in Germany as the German Weather Service (DWD) issues a warning for severe thunderstorms, storms, and hail across parts of the country. Here's what you need to know:

Harrowing Weather Ahead

The chilly front of a low-pressure system from Norway's northwest has made its way, albeit slowly, towards the southeast. While milder airmasses are reaching us, it remains warm and humid in the south. Southeastern Baden-Württemberg, parts of Bavaria, and Upper Palatinate are particularly at risk, as these regions may experience thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon, leading to locally heavy rainfall of up to 15 liters per square meter in an hour[1][2].

Small Hail and Blustery Conditions

During the day, the DWD anticipates experiencing individual, prominent thunderstorms in the south, parts of the east, and the southern center. Heavy rain with amounts of up to 20 liters per square meter in a short time, small hail, and gusts up to 70 km/h (Bft 8 to 9) are possible[2][3]. In the south, severe local weather due to heavy rainfall of up to 30 liters per square meter, larger hail, and gusts up to 80 km/h (Bft 9) cannot be entirely ruled out. In the north, short-lived thunderstorms with small hail and gusts up to 65 km/h (Bft 8) are less likely[2][3].

Elsewhere, the weather will be partly cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the east and north. The rest of the country will generally stay dry. Temperatures in the northwest will range between 17 to 20 degrees, with temperatures rising between 21 to 24 degrees elsewhere[2]. A light to moderate west to northwest wind will prevail.

  1. In light of the severe weather forecasted by the German Weather Service (DWD), it is crucial to adhere to the community policy regarding severe weather preparations, particularly in the regions of southeastern Baden-Württemberg, parts of Bavaria, and Upper Palatinate, where heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail are most likely.
  2. As the weather remains unstable due to the incoming low-pressure system, residents should keep a close eye on weather-forecasting updates for Germany, especially for hail and blustery conditions that may develop in the south, parts of the east, and southern center, as advised by DWD.
