Windy Conditions Precede Warm Temperatures in North Rhine-Westphalia - Forecast for North Rhine-Westphalia: Wind anticipated, followed by warmth.

Expect a shift in weather patterns over North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) in the coming days. On Tuesday, a weak low-pressure system sweeps in, stirring up changeable weather. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts a dominance of high-pressure influence from Wednesday onwards, ushering in warmer air from the southwest.

On Tuesday, skies will be mostly cloudy, with light showers sprinkling across the north and eastern mountains after late morning. The southwest, however, remains mostly dry. Come afternoon and evening, skies clear up in parts of the north, while isolated showers continue to pepper the south. Temperatures reach between 17 to 22 degrees, with cooler temperatures hovering at 15 degrees in high elevations. The wind blows moderately from the southwest, later shifting west to northwest, with gusts of up to 55 km/h possible in the mountains and some lowland areas, particularly in the north and northeast—before easing off in the evening.

From Tuesday night into Wednesday, showers in the south subside, and the sky gradually clears. Fog may form locally. Temperatures dip to between 10 and 6 degrees.

Changes kick in from Wednesday, bringing mostly sunny weather and no precipitation. Temperatures soar to 20 to 25 degrees, with the hottest spots west of the Rhine. In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, temperatures drop to 13 to 8 degrees, cooler in valley areas.

Thursday is set to be warm to hot with abundant sunshine and only a few high-level clouds, with temperatures reaching 25 to 30 degrees. The wind blows moderately from the east to southeast.

On Friday and Saturday nights, steaming hot temperatures could potentially lead to a "tropical night" in some areas, with temperatures holding between 22 and 17 degrees, a departure from the typical drop in temperatures at night. Friday is mostly sunny and dry, with isolated heat thunderstorms a low possibility. Saturday will be another scorcher, with highs of 28 to 33 degrees.

Additional Insights:

A "tropical night" generally refers to a night where temperatures remain surprisingly high, often failing to cool down significantly from daytime highs. While the temperature threshold may vary by region, a common definition is a night where temperatures don't dip below 20°C (68°F). In the context of NRW, such nights are less common compared to Mediterranean regions but can occur during heatwaves influenced by broader European weather patterns.

The Commission might be informed about the progress of the negotiations on a potential agreement regarding the weather forecasting for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), considering the possibility of a "tropical night" soon, as predicted by the German Weather Service (DWD). On Tuesday, skies over the NRW mountains will be mostly cloudy, with light showers sprinkling across the north and eastern mountains after late morning.
