On Tuesday, the sky will be mostly cloudy with light rain anticipated in the northern and eastern mountain areas from late morning. The southwest, however, will remain relatively dry. As the afternoon and evening progress, the north will clear up a bit, while the south might still experience isolated showers. Temperatures will range between 17 to 22 degrees, with 15 degrees in higher elevations. The wind will blow moderately from the southwest, later shifting towards the northwest, with gusts reaching up to 55 km/h in the mountains and occasionally in the lowlands, mainly in the north and northeast. The wind will ease off by evening.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the last showers in the south will dissipate, and it will mostly be dry. Fog may form locally, and the cloud cover will gradually decrease. The lowest temperatures will be between 10 and 6 degrees.
From Wednesday onwards, high-pressure influence will dominate, bringing warmer air from the southwest. The day will be sunny to partly cloudy, with no rain expected. Temperatures will rise to 20 to 25 degrees, with the highest values expected west of the Rhine. In higher elevations, the maximum will be 17 degrees.
The night from Wednesday to Thursday will be mainly clear and dry, with temperatures dropping to 13 to 8 degrees, and down to 6 degrees in low-lying areas.
On Thursday, it will be warm to hot with plenty of sun and only high-level clouds. The highest temperatures will be 25 to 30 degrees, with 23 degrees in higher elevations. The wind will blow moderately from the east to southeast.
There might be a Tropical Night in some areas during the night from Thursday to Friday, characterized by temperatures that do not drop below 20 degrees.

The Concept of a Tropical Night
A Tropical Night implies a night during which temperatures do not drop below a specific threshold, usually 20°C in many regions, although definitions can vary. In Germany, this threshold is typically 20°C, and Tropical Nights can occur in certain regions as early as spring or late autumn.
When can we expect a Tropical Night in NRW?
Tropical Nights often occur during the summer months, particularly from mid-June to August, when extended periods of heat and humidity are more common. However, with climate change, these events may happen earlier or later than in previous decades. It's important to note that there is no fixed calendar date for when Tropical Nights might occur in NRW as they are dependent on weather conditions.
While a Tropical Night offers a unique experience, it can also pose health challenges, increasing the risk of heat-related health issues. Cities like Cologne or Düsseldorf, for instance, are more susceptible to Tropical Nights due to urban heat island effects, where built-up areas retain heat longer than surrounding rural regions. Stay tuned for more updates on the weather and take necessary precautions to stay cool during the warm nights!
The Commission has also been informed of the progress in the negotiations on the conclusion of the agreement regarding the predicted Tropical Night in NRW, which is expected during the night from Thursday to Friday. As the Tropical Night approaches, weather forecasting agencies such as DWD are closely monitoring the weather conditions to ensure accurate predictions and necessary precautions.
