Weather Alerts Issued Across Europe and Spain
Thursday will see weather warnings issued across several regions in Europe, as official meteorological services and agencies prepare for local severe weather conditions. The affected regions, including southwest Baden-Württemberg to northeast Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, will experience heavy rain, hail, and storm gusts. Regions not already under orange or yellow alert on Wednesday will receive warnings as needed throughout Thursday, based on evolving conditions.
In Spain, Andalusia will be under a yellow alert due to high temperatures from 1 PM until 9 PM, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees in areas along the Guadalquivir. The Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) will activate alerts in seven regions, including Navarre and the Basque Country, which will be at risk from these phenomena, with a yellow alert coming into effect from 4 PM in the afternoon.
Temperatures will decrease almost everywhere, with maximum temperatures exceeding 35 degrees in some areas of the Guadalquivir and in the southeast depressions. In the Valencian Community, the yellow alert will come into effect two hours earlier. Minimum temperatures will decrease in areas of the northeastern quadrant and the eastern Iberian Peninsula, increase in areas of the southwest and the Cantabrian Mountains, and remain unchanged elsewhere. They will not drop below 20 in the Canary Islands, Mediterranean area, and areas along the Guadalquivir.
In Catalonia, the alert will be at orange level due to rain and storms from midnight until 5 AM, and will decrease to yellow level throughout the day, except from 8 AM to midday. Possible showers and storms that may be locally strong are expected in the eastern part of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands during the early morning. Aragon will be yellow due to showers during the early morning.
In the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, winds will generally be light, more intense along coasts, with a prevailing northerly component, variable in the Mediterranean area, with some strong northerly intervals in the Ebro Delta, Ampurdán, and Balearic Islands. A moderate easterly wind will blow with some strong intervals in the Canary Islands. Cloudy skies are expected in the extreme north of the Peninsula, with light rain, more persistent in the eastern Cantabrian region and morning and evening fog banks. Intervals of cloudy skies are expected in the north and evolution clouds with some weak showers in the islands of greater relief in the Canary Islands.
Scattered evolution clouds will develop in the northern half, eastern third, central zone, and the Balearic Islands in the afternoon, with possible showers in mountainous areas and nearby. For the northern peninsula, it is forecast that it will continue under the influence of Atlantic circulation, resulting in cloudy skies with rain in the extreme north, more abundant and persistent rain in the eastern Cantabrian region, and morning and evening fog banks.
