The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for East and Central India, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next seven days (July 5 to 11, 2025). This forecast highlights active monsoon conditions with particular heavy rainfall events during early to mid-July.
In East India, Gangetic West Bengal is anticipated to have heavy rainfall on July 6, following heavy rainfall on July 5. Jharkhand and Bihar are expected to experience heavy rain on some days within this period. Northeast Indian states like Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. West Bengal is expected to get heavy rainfall isolatedly, and rainfall is likely to decrease after July 7, but heavy rain may continue sporadically.
Central India is also braced for heavy rainfall. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Madhya Pradesh continuously from July 5 to 11. Extremely heavy rainfall is also likely in ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on July 6 and 7. Heavy rainfall is expected in Vidarbha from July 6 to 8, and in Chhattisgarh, central Maharashtra, and the Gujarat region from July 4 to 8. Madhya Pradesh is expected to see heavy rainfall on July 4-5 and another wet spell from July 8 to 10.
Other regions in India are also expected to receive significant rainfall. Northwest India will have peak rainfall intensity on July 6 and 7, with some parts of East Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and western Uttar Pradesh to get heavy rain on July 6. Himachal Pradesh may witness extremely heavy showers on July 6. The Gujarat Region is anticipated to have heavy to very heavy rainfall. Coastal Karnataka has heavy rainfall on July 6, 10-11, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are predicted to have heavy rainfall on July 8-10.
Delhi will receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on July 6, with temperatures 1-4°C below normal. Coastal Andhra has light to moderate rainfall throughout the week, while Assam & NE states have heavy rain with thunderstorms throughout the week. South Peninsular India has intermittent heavy rainfall activity, especially in Karnataka and Kerala. Uttarakhand is predicted for very heavy rainfall on July 6-7, and Himachal Pradesh may experience extremely heavy rainfall on July 6 and very heavy rainfall on July 7-8.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to have heavy rainfall on July 6, and Kerala & Mahe have heavy rainfall on July 6, 9-11. Vidarbha is predicted to have heavy rainfall from July 7-8, and Konkan & Goa are predicted for heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 6-11. Marathwada experiences heavy rainfall on July 6-7, and Saurashtra & Kutch are expected to have heavy rainfall from July 6-7. Madhya Maharashtra Ghats are expected to have extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) from July 6-7.
Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, East & West UP may all experience heavy rainfall on various dates ranging from July 6 to July 11. This forecast suggests that the monsoon is in full swing, and farmers in these regions can expect beneficial rainfall for their crops, although the risk of flooding and related hazards remains high. Farmers and residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow local weather advisories.
