India Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Along Western Coast, Mild Heatwave Conditions in North

India is bracing for a mixed weather pattern over the next seven days, according to the latest forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy Rainfall Along the Western Coast

The western coast, including Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat, is expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm) from 22nd to 24th May. This rainfall is set to continue through the end of August, with very heavy rainfall in Konkan on the 25th and 26th. Gujarat and adjoining western coastal districts will also see heavy to very heavy rainfall in the final days of this forecast period, especially around the 26th-27th of August.

Mild Heatwave Conditions in North India

In contrast, North India is forecast to have scattered heavy rains and no prominent heatwave conditions. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh during 21st-27th August. This reduces the likelihood of heatwave conditions as rain and cloud cover suppress extreme temperatures. The temperature trend forecast suggests normal to below normal maximum temperatures in much of North India during this period.

  • Western Coast: Heavy rainfall will continue over Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra through to the end of August, with very heavy rainfall in Konkan on the 25th and 26th.
