A stretch of the A72 motorway near Plauen-Ost was shut for hours after a Rivian truck trailer caught fire. The blaze started when a tire burst, forcing emergency crews to close the road between Plauen-East and Plauen-South. Traffic resumed once firefighters brought the situation under control.
The incident began when a tire on the Ford truck’s trailer blew out. The sudden failure sparked a fire that quickly spread to the cargo—cardboard boxes and wheel axles. Flames engulfed the entire trailer before the driver could react.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The truck driver’s quick actions prevented harm, while firefighters ensured the fire did not spread further. The A72 is now fully operational again after the temporary disruption.
