Ford tractor plunges into harbor during icy snow-clearing operation
A gritting tractor from Ford slid into Bremerhaven's harbour basin during a snow-clearing operation. The 2.5-ton vehicle skidded off the quay while working near the ferry docking area. The driver escaped the freezing water but required hospital checks as a precaution.
The accident happened as the tractor attempted to clear snow and spread grit. Losing traction on the icy surface, it plunged into the harbour. Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene.
Recovery teams used divers and a floating crane to pull the vehicle from the water. The operation took several hours due to the tractor's weight and the cold conditions. Authorities confirmed no other injuries or damage beyond the submerged machine.
The driver was treated for potential cold exposure before being discharged. The tractor, once lifted from the water, will undergo inspection for damage. Harbour operations resumed as normal after the recovery effort.
