Car Lands on Frozen Pond - Ford skids off road, lands on frozen pond in Germany
A Ford veered off the road and landed on a frozen pond in the Upper Palatinate region on Sunday. The incident took place near Bodenwöhr, where emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. Both occupants escaped without serious injury by walking across the ice to safety.
The mid-size Ford skidded off the road before coming to rest on the pond’s surface. Despite the crash, the ice held firm, stopping the Ford from sinking. The two people inside—a 20-year-old driver and a passenger—managed to climb out and reach the shore unharmed.
Recovery teams planned to lift the Ford from the pond later that evening. A crane was brought in to carefully remove the vehicle from the ice. Local authorities, including the municipality of Bodenwöhr, coordinated the response, with support from the State Building Authority in Amberg-Sulzbach for road-related matters.
The Ford was successfully retrieved from the pond using heavy equipment. No injuries were reported, and the driver and passenger required no medical treatment. Investigations into the cause of the accident will follow in the coming days.
