Werder Breeze's Big Gun Keita Ditches International Journey
Naby Keita, Werder Bremen's top loan signing from Liverpool FC, won't be jetting off to Guinea's national football team during the two-week global break. Instead, he'll focus on his Bundesliga resurgence in Bremen. The news broke on Monday from the club itself. Keita, the 28-year-old, has been sidelined since early October due to a thigh injury sustained in a match against 1899 Hoffenheim.
From Bremen's perspective, skipping the international trip is "golden," as coach Ole Werner put it. "We're optimistic that Naby can make the most of the break," he added. Bremen aims to have its main player back in form for the November 25 home clash against Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Keita, unfortunately, will miss Guinea's World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Botswana during this period.
While Guinea's FIFA situation isn't relevant to this story, it's worth noting that Keita is currently on loan at Hungarian club Ferencváros, a step away from leading the Werder Bremen first team due to unprofessional behavior and a lack of playing time. As a result, his decision to skip international duty has no impact on his come-back from injury at Werder Bremen.
Instead, Bremen hopes that the break will help Keita fully recover from his injury and get back into form. Fans are eagerly anticipating his return since he's an integral part of their squad. So, while he's having a rest from international duties, he'll work on his Bundesliga comeback with Bremen, aiming for a successful outing against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
