Barcelona Players and Coach Fined for Doping Control Violations

Barcelona footballers Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, along with head coach Hansi Flick, have been fined by UEFA for violating anti-doping control rules during the Champions League semi-final match against Inter last season.

The players were fined €5,000 each for failing to report immediately to the doping control station after the game and not following the instructions of the doping control officers during the process. These breaches violated UEFA’s anti-doping protocol under Article 21.8.

In a separate incident, Hansi Flick was fined €20,000 for violating fair play rules, but the specific violation was not specified in the report.

The fines were imposed by UEFA, the governing body for European football, and come as a result of non-compliance with the regulations regarding doping control.

The news was first reported by AS, and further details can be found in the RBC Sport Telegram channel and on their website at this link: https://www.rbc.ru/sport/football/16/04/2023/6438077c9a7947887151469b

It is important to note that these fines are separate from any positive doping tests and are instead related to procedural failures.

The incident took place during the Champions League semi-final match, which Barcelona lost to Inter in extra time with a final score of 3-4. The loss prevented Barcelona from reaching the Champions League final.

This is not the first time that Barcelona has faced scrutiny over doping violations. In 2019, the club was fined €300,000 by UEFA for failing to cooperate with an investigation into alleged doping offences.

Despite the fines, Barcelona will continue to compete in the Champions League next season, with Hansi Flick set to serve his ban in the next campaign. The team will look to bounce back from this setback and continue to compete at the highest level.

Footballers Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, as well as coach Hansi Flick, were fined for their involvement in sports-related violations, specifically in the field of soccer. The fines were imposed by UEFA for non-compliance with doping control regulations during the Champions League semi-final match against Inter, which Barcelona lost.
