Spanish Striker Álvaro Morata Joins Como 1907 Amidst Contract Dispute

Spanish footballer Álvaro Morata has made a surprise move to Serie A side Como 1907, on loan from AC Milan, amidst a dispute over unfulfilled commitments at his previous club, Galatasaray.

The 29-year-old striker waived more than €650,000 in compensation as part of the contract termination, with AC Milan reportedly paying €5 million to Galatasaray to release him from his contract, which was due to run until January 2026.

Morata's decision to leave Galatasaray was prompted by what he described as a failure to honour agreed commitments and a disrespect for fundamental principles. In a public statement, he criticised the club's management for not upholding their promises or respecting contractual agreements.

"There are principles that should never be broken," Morata said, expressing his disappointment that his earned compensation was not properly recognised. He felt compelled to provide fans with "the true explanation of what happened," indicating a breakdown in trust and professionalism with the board.

Despite this, Morata expressed his gratitude to the Galatasaray fans, coach, staff, and teammates, acknowledging their warmth and support.

Como 1907, who finished tenth in their return to the elite after 21 years, offers one of the most offensive and attractive styles in Serie A. Morata's recruitment was initiated by coach Xavi Fàbregas, with whom he has a good relationship from their time together at Chelsea and the Spanish national team.

Morata will join a team with a Spanish accent, as he will be joining Alberto Moreno, Álex Valle, Sergi Roberto, and Iván Azón at Como 1907. This will be his nineteenth move, having joined his seventh club.

The move is yet to be officially confirmed by the clubs, but Morata's return to Serie A comes as he seeks a fresh start after a frustrating experience at Galatasaray.

Morata previously played for Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, AC Milan, and Galatasaray, and showed great form in Serie A, particularly at Juventus. The Galatasaray statement read that AC Milan will pay a contract termination indemnity of five million euros to Galatasaray.
