Footballer Aues Fabisch includes in Africa Cup's national squad
Defensive Midfielder Jonah Fabisch Joins Zimbabwe National Team for International Friendlies
Germany-based midfielder Jonah Fabisch has been summoned to the Zimbabwe national football team, also known as "The Warriors," for upcoming international friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger in Morocco on June 6 and 10, 2025.
Fabisch, who initially joined Erzgebirge Aue from Magdeburg, has established himself as a consistent performer with his impressive work rate in the defensive midfield under head coach Jens Härtel. He participated in 22 third-tier matches and five cup games this season, most recently in the final against Lok Leipzig.
The 23-year-old Kenyan-born player, who holds Zimbabwean citizenship, was part of the national team previously, making an appearance in November 2021. His recent call-up comes alongside the returns of key players including goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, winger Bill Antonio, forwards Daniel Msendami, and Tinotenda Kadewere.
This upcoming tournament represents an opportunity for Fabisch to demonstrate his capabilities and potentially secure a spot in future competitive matches, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Zimbabwean team will compete against Egypt, South Africa, and Angola in the group stage of the AFCON tournament.
The friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger are intended to prepare and evaluate the team ahead of future competitive campaigns, even though they do not directly influence qualification standings. Fabisch and his fellow players are seeking to solidify their positions and form ahead of potential future qualifiers.
Erzgebirge Aue, Fabish’s current club, will resume performance diagnostics on June 20, with training set to commence on June 23 in the Loßnitz Valley. The team, having survived relegation, is focused on rebuilding and strengthening its roster for the upcoming season.
Fabisch, being part of the Zimbabwe national football team known as "The Warriors," will have the chance to showcase his skills in the upcoming international friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger, given his consistent performances in defensive midfield during his German club, Erzgebirge Aue's games. These friendlies are a stepping stone for him to potentially secure a spot in upcoming European-leagues competitions like the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
