Antonio Rüdiger handed a six-match ban following his outburst incident - Footballer Antonio Rüdiger faces a six-game ban, following his suspension due to time spent off the pitch.

German national footballer Antonio Rüdiger is getting a taste of disciplinary action for his aggressive behavior in the Spanish King's Cup final. The Real Madrid defender was banned for six games, according to the Spanish football federation, due to his actions during the game against FC Barcelona.

In the closing moments of extra time (2:3 loss), the substitute Rüdiger went ballistic, verbally abusing the referee and hurling an object at him following a controversial offside call that ended Real Madrid's last attack.

While Rüdiger will also miss time due to a knee injury requiring surgery, the six-game ban means he will be sidelined for the club's remaining five La Liga matches and the opening game of the 2025–26 season.

Rudi Völler Warns Rüdiger

Despite the media speculation surrounding his national team future, the DFB's sports director, Rudi Völler, has suggested that Rüdiger may not face disciplinary action from the German squad.

"Antonio is a top-notch player, but he needs to show class while representing the national team," Völler stated. "He demands respect, but he must respect others at all times."

Off the Rails

Rüdiger showed little regard for decorum in the contentious cup final. The incident occurred when the referee, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoechea, blew the whistle to terminate Real Madrid's final attack due to an offside by Kylian Mbappé. Enraged, Rüdiger charged towards the bench, shedding his ice packs and nearly getting out of control, as teammates and staff struggled to maintain him. As a result of his outburst, Rüdiger received a red card.
