Football world stunned as Arsenal's Executive Vice-Chairman unexpectedly departs after spending 18 years with the club
Arsenal's Tim Lewis Steps Down After 18 Years
Tim Lewis, a long-serving executive at Arsenal Football Club, has announced his departure from the club after 18 years. Lewis joined Arsenal as an advisor in 2007 and rose through the ranks to become the executive vice-chairman in 2023.
In 2023, Lewis was promoted to vice-chairman at the same time as Stan Kroenke announced he would become co-chairman alongside his son Josh. During his tenure, Lewis played a crucial role in guiding Arsenal through the financially challenging Covid-19 pandemic.
Lewis was heavily involved in the transfer market and was key in landing Eberechi Eze for an estimated £60m. He was part of a trio alongside manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta that landed several signings in the transfer market. In the summer window of 2022, Arsenal spent an estimated £225million under Lewis's guidance.
Lewis's departure comes after he played a significant role in tying Arteta to a new long-term contract in 2022. Arteta is convinced that the owners will continue to invest in the club to make it successful.
"I am confident that the Kroenke family is fully committed to Arsenal and has big ambitions for the club," Arteta said.
Martin Keown, a club legend and talkSPORT host, expressed his support for Tim Lewis. Keown stated that Lewis's departure will be a loss to Arsenal. He also praised Arteta, saying, "Mikel Arteta is doing a fantastic job at Arsenal, and I have full faith in him."
Richard Garlick is set to be promoted to CEO to work under Josh Kroenke as part of a restructuring. Two more representatives from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) will join the board, and long-time advisor Ben Winston will also join.
Owner Stan Kroenke has taken a step back in recent years, passing over the day-to-day running of the club to his son Josh Kroenke. Keown mentioned that Garlick impresses him, and he is looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in his new role.
Lewis, an experienced lawyer, has been a valuable asset to Arsenal during his time at the club. His contributions to the club's success will not be forgotten, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
