The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers started the 25th CESAFI men's basketball tournament with a hard-fought victory against the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) Panthers. The final score was 74-70, a close contest that demonstrated the determination of both teams.
Raul Gentallan contributed nine markers for the UV Green Lancers, while AJ Sacayan added 12 points. Transferee Karl Hyden Cabulao, formerly of the USJ-R Jaguars, made his mark with eight points and seven rebounds. Last year's Finals MVP, Kent Ivo Salarda, sealed the game by splitting his free throws.
For the Panthers, only Ryll Da Silva scored in double figures with 12 points. Noel Lingoste and Rafael Calo each scored 10 points, and Taburnal added 15. The Panthers capitalised on UV's 22 turnovers, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

In the high school division, the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue (UCLM) Baby Webmasters defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguar Cubs, 63-53. Wade Adam Luche had a double-double for UCLM with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Yancy Montealto grabbed 10 rebounds and contributed 8 points for UCLM.
The UV Green Lancers were heavily favoured, but they faced resistance from the USPF Panthers. The Panthers managed to accumulate 39 bench points in the game, showcasing their depth and talent.
