Football star Jérôme Boateng hangs up his boots after winning world titles
Football Legend Jérôme Boateng Announces Retirement and Pursues Coaching Career
Jérôme Boateng, the German footballer who won the World Cup in 2014 and two Champions League titles with FC Bayern Munich, has announced the end of his illustrious career via social media. Boateng spent ten years with Bayern Munich, during which he won nine Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals, and made a significant impact on the team.
After leaving Munich in 2021, Boateng played for Olympique Lyon in France, US Salernitana in Italy, and Linzer ASK in Austria. His contract with Linzer ASK was originally set to run until 2026, but he terminated it in August 2023, after just 14 official games. Boateng expressed gratitude for everything football has given him, including learning, winning, and losing, and stated that it was the right time for him to start a new chapter.
In a new environment after leaving Munich, Boateng found it enriching to work with a different team. He also obtained the Trainer B license from the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) in November 2024, a milestone he admitted was "naturally a bit nervous" to achieve.
Boateng made his Bundesliga debut in January 2007 for Hertha BSC, and in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he faced his half-brother Kevin-Prince Boateng, who played for Ghana. Boateng was named Germany's Footballer of the Year in 2016, a testament to his exceptional talent and contributions to the sport.
Since terminating his contract with Linzer ASK, Boateng has not announced a new team or sporting activities. However, he has expressed a clear plan to become a professional football trainer and aims to begin as an assistant coach at a club as soon as possible after obtaining further coaching licenses. Boateng has not won any titles or awards since announcing the end of his career via social media.
Boateng's career highlights include his World Cup win with the German national team in Brazil in 2014, and his two Champions League titles with FC Bayern Munich. His impact on the sport, both on and off the field, will undoubtedly be felt for years to come as he embarks on a new chapter in his career as a football trainer.
