After a distinguished career spanning over a decade, German footballer Jerome Boateng has announced his retirement from professional football. The 34-year-old defender, who left Bayern Munich in 2021, is now setting his sights on a new challenge – a coaching career.
Boateng obtained his coaching B-license in November 2024, having completed a special course with the Bavarian Football Association (BFV). Despite feeling a bit nervous before the exam, Boateng expressed his eagerness to start his coaching journey in college football.
Boateng's professional football journey took him to France, Italy, and Austria after his departure from Munich. He played for Olympique Lyon, US Salernitana, and Linzer ASK, respectively. However, his contract with Linz was dissolved in August 2022, after just 14 official matches.
Boateng revealed that working in a new environment was an enriching experience for him, and he believes that it's the right time for him to start a new chapter. He will no longer play professionally and plans to start his coaching career soon.
Boateng's decision to retire from football and pursue coaching comes at the end of his contract with Linzer ASK, which expired in August 2024. As he embarks on this new adventure, fans and football enthusiasts alike will eagerly await his coaching debut in college football.
