In a significant move, ESPN has confirmed that Stephen A. Smith will take on an expanded role within the network, with appearances on both Monday Night Football and NBA Countdown.

Smith, who has a long-standing friendship with Inside the NBA hosts Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenny Smith, will make at least three appearances with the Monday Night Football crew this season. His debut will be during the Detroit Lions game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. Smith is also expected to appear on more of ESPN's programs across different sports.

However, there is controversy online about Smith joining the Monday Night Football team, with some fans expressing concerns about his addition to the crew.

In addition to his new role on Monday Night Football, Smith will also make more appearances on NBA Countdown. The search results do not provide information about a new host for Inside the NBA or about Smith having a guest appearance on the show.

Meanwhile, Molly Qerim, the host of First Take, has left ESPN after ten years in the role and 19 years with the network in total. The search for a new host for First Take is ongoing at ESPN, with names like Joy Taylor, Shae Peppler Cornette, and Courtney Cronin being considered for the position.

ESPN has licensed the popular studio show Inside the NBA from TNT, with the Inside the NBA studio program continuing to be operated from Atlanta. The Inside the NBA hosts, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, Ernie Johnson, and Kenny Smith, will remain in their roles. Smith has stated that he will only appear on Inside the NBA if the hosts ask him to.

Smith signed a $100 million contract with ESPN earlier this year, tying down other stars like Malika Andrews to new contracts as well.

Despite the controversy and speculation, Smith has expressed his commitment to making ESPN successful, stating that he will do whatever is needed to contribute to the network's success.

With Smith's expanded role, fans can look forward to seeing him on both Monday Night Football and NBA Countdown this season. The specific dates and times of his appearances are yet to be announced.
