Football Preview for Campbell County: Coach Focuses on Building Depth and Team Unity to Avoid Another Loss-Ridden Season

The Campbell County Camels are gearing up for the 2024 season with a strategic focus on building depth and fostering unity within the team, as outlined in Terry Boehmker's report. This approach is crucial, given the challenging schedule the team faces, which includes seven top-10 ranked opponents.

The Camels will be up against formidable opponents like Ryle, Cooper, Beechwood, Highlands, and Newport Central Catholic. This demanding lineup is not just about improving on last season's performance but preparing for and contending with high-level competition consistently.

Leading the charge is senior quarterback Lucas Anthrop, the team's top returning starter on offense. Last season, Anthrop completed 107 passes for 1,229 yards and 11 touchdowns, and rushed for 481 yards and scored five touchdowns. His younger brother, Cade Anthrop, a sophomore wide receiver, is also expected to make an impact.

Trevor Bertram, the team's leading rusher from last season, will also be back in the backfield. Six starters are returning on offense, and Coach Brian Weinrich has emphasised the importance of all players, except quarterbacks, playing both offense and defense during scrimmage sessions.

On defense, the Camels have some work to do. Nine starters from last year's 2-9 team have graduated, leaving vacancies for the coaching staff to fill. Senior outside linebacker Elijah Depperschmidt is a key player on the rebuilt defensive unit, with 78 tackles and 11 tackles behind the line of scrimmage last season.

The offensive line has been strengthened through hard work in the weight room, and some members even have experience from the wrestling team. Returning veteran offensive linemen like Brayden Allender, Connor Abercrombie, Maxwell Mill, and Michael Burton will provide valuable experience.

The 2024 Campbell County Camels football schedule includes games against Scott, Pulaski Southwestern, Highlands, Cooper, Lloyd, Newport Central Catholic, Ryle, Simon Kenton, Great Crossing, and Beechwood. The team's 12 seniors are committed to ending the streak of not winning a Class 6A playoff game since 2017 and not having a winning season since 2018.

With a solid strategy in place and a challenging schedule ahead, the Campbell County Camels are ready to take on the 2024 season with determination and unity.

  1. The Campbell County Camels, anticipating the 2024 season, aim to strengthen their team by creating depth and promoting unity, as emphasized in Terry Boehmker's report.
  2. Remaining opponents like Ryle, Cooper, Beechwood, Highlands, and Newport Central Catholic will pose significant challenges, as the Camels prep for competitive gameplay beyond their previous records.
  3. Seniors quarterback Lucas Anthrop and outside linebacker Elijah Depperschmidt will lead the Camels with Anthrop's impressive passing statistics and Depperschmidt's impactful tackling abilities last season.
  4. The Camels will deploy strategies aimed at developing players for both offense and defense, with strength in numbers and unity being their captain cards, particularly against the formidable 2024 schedule that includes NFL-worthy opponents.
