With the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi remains locked in Tehran, unable to meet his team for the Club World Cup. After the escalation of the dispute with Israel, Taremi has found it impossible to secure a flight to the USA. The news agency AFP confirmed this with Inter Milan. Taremi last hit the pitch as captain for the Iranian national team in the World Cup qualifier against North Korea (3:0).

The war of words and actions between Israel and Iran continued overnight. Israel launched an unexpected massive attack on military targets in Iran on Friday. Iran's airspace remains indefinitely closed, according to the official news agency IRNA.

Inter Milan has been in constant touch with Iranian authorities in Italy over the past 24 hours, attempting to console the player and find a viable solution that is currently impossible, as per Gazzetta dello Sport. "The player is in Tehran at a secure location, protected from attacks," it added.

Inter Milan will square off against Mexico's CF Monterrey in their opening match of the Club World Cup on Tuesday in Los Angeles. This is their first game since their heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain (0:5).

Taremi is unlikely to feature in any upcoming matches, regardless of when Iranian airspace reopens. Since joining Inter Milan from FC Porto last year, he has played in 26 Serie A games, mostly off the bench, scoring one goal and setting up three. In the Champions League, he has made 12 appearances, scoring once and assisting four.[2][3] He watched the final loss from the sidelines.

The community policy of Inter Milan should address the situation of Mehdi Taremi, stranded in Tehran due to the Iran-Israel conflict, ensuring supportive measures for him and similar cases in the future. The employment policy, meanwhile, should provide flexible arrangements for athletes, considering potential global conflicts that might prevent them from joining their teams for tournaments, such as the Club World Cup in sports like football.
