Dallas Cowboys' Star Linebacker Micah Parsons Seeks Trade Amid Contract Dispute
Micah Parsons, the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, has officially requested a trade from the team due to stalled contract extension talks and dissatisfaction with the organization's handling of negotiations.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Parsons was drafted 12th overall in the 2021 draft. In his short career, he has established himself as one of the NFL's most dominant defensive players, recording 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks in 53 games. He has also been invited to the Pro Bowl each season and has been named to the NFL's first-team All-Pro twice.
Despite his young age of 26 and being under contract for the 2025 season, Parsons has expressed frustration with the lack of progress in contract discussions. He has attempted to initiate talks with the Cowboys, but the organization reportedly refused during the last season. In March, Parsons reportedly discussed his contractual expectations with Cowboys owner Stephen Jones, but to this day, the team has not had a conversation with Parsons' agent about a contract.
In his message, Parsons stated that he no longer wishes to be held to closed-door negotiations without the presence of his agent. Back-and-forth discussions between Parsons' agent, Jones, and the director of player contracts, Adam Prasifka, took place without a deal being reached. No requests have been made regarding money, duration, or anything else in relation to Parsons' contract.
Recently, Parsons publicly stated he no longer wants to play in Dallas. He claims the team has not engaged in contract talks with his agent, despite his willingness to negotiate. The Cowboys face a decision whether to trade Parsons and potentially receive a significant haul of draft picks in return, with several teams like the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, and others considered possible landing spots.
It is important to note that Parsons is under contract with the Cowboys for the next season, with an option worth over $24 million. The situation is a major storyline for Dallas Cowboys fans and the NFL given Parsons’ status as a cornerstone defensive player.
As of now, no new contract deal has been reached, and the Cowboys' response to the trade request remains pending.
