Football player Mateo Joseph transitions to RCD Mallorca following his tenure with Leeds United
Mateo Joseph Fernández-Regatillo, the 21-year-old forward who scored three goals and provided four assists in 41 matches for Leeds United in the 2024-25 season, has joined RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan for the 2025-26 season. The official announcement was made on August 9, 2025.
Regatillo's move to Mallorca marks a return to Spain for the young talent, who previously played for RCD Espanyol’s youth setup before joining Leeds United in 2022. His performances with Leeds United helped the team advance to the Premier League.
Regatillo is excited about the opportunity to join Mallorca, citing the chance to grow and help the team as a key factor in his decision. He shares a close relationship with Pablo Torre, a childhood friend and former youth teammate at Racing de Santander, who is now with Mallorca. The deal was partly influenced by regular communication between the two.
Mallorca's squad for the 2025-26 season aims to integrate Regatillo as a promising forward, looking to benefit from his Championship and international experience. Pablo Torre provides a familiar environment for Regatillo, and the team structure is designed to accommodate talents like him for competitive performance in their league.
If Cyle Larin were to leave Mallorca, the team would have four forwards in its squad: Regatillo, Pablo Ortells, Pablo Torre, and Lucas Bergstrom. The signing of Regatillo is expected to help Mallorca breathe easier should Larin leave the team.
Regatillo has also represented Spain at the Under-21 level, scoring eight goals in 13 caps, including recently competing in the Under-21 European Championship. His deal with Mallorca is expected to become official soon.

Regatillo will be contributing his European-leagues experience, specifically from Laliga and the Premier League, to Mallorca's squad this season, as he aims to integrate with the team and bolster their forward line. With the potential departure of Cyle Larin, having Regatillo, Pablo Ortells, Pablo Torre, and Lucas Bergstrom as forwards could provide Mallorca with a stronger and more experienced attacking force.
