Football player Kurt Warner's son, E.J., to lead Fresno State's team in upcoming games
Fresno State's E.J. Warner Ready to Lead Bulldogs' Offense in 2025 Season
E.J. Warner, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner, is set to make his debut as the senior starting quarterback for Fresno State in their season opener against Kansas on August 23rd. Warner brings significant college football experience to the Bulldogs, having started his career at Temple University, then transferring to Rice University in 2024 before moving to Fresno State in 2025.
Warner's college career has been marked by impressive statistics. In two seasons at Temple (2022-2023), he threw for a total of 6,104 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. In 2023 alone, he set a Temple record with 23 touchdown passes. At Rice in 2024, Warner passed for 2,710 yards, ranking fifth all-time at the university. He completed 62% of his passes, with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
In his time at both Temple and Rice, Warner completed 796 of 1,327 passes for 8,814 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions. He started for two seasons at Temple and one season at Rice before transferring to Fresno State.
The Bulldogs' new head coach is Matt Entz, who served as the assistant head coach at Southern California for the past two seasons. Warner won a competition for first string against redshirt sophomore Jayden Mandal and sophomore Carson Conklin to secure his starting position.
Warner's leadership, poise, quick grasp of the playbook, and ability to execute under pressure have been noted. He has also been recognised on the 2025 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award preseason watch list, which recognises senior or upperclassman quarterbacks for talent, character, and leadership.
Fresno State's home opener is against Georgia Southern on August 30th. Warner and the Bulldogs are eager to kick off the 2025 season and make their mark in college football.
