Football player Keenan Allen re-signs with the Chargers for one more year
Keenan Allen, one of the most productive wide receivers in Los Angeles Chargers history, has re-signed with the team after spending the 2024 season with the Chicago Bears. The news was announced on Tuesday evening.
Allen, who turned 33 this year, ranks third among active NFL players with 974 career receptions, and sixth among them with 11,274 career receiving yards. In his time with the Chargers, he has amassed an impressive statistic sheet, with 974 receptions, 11,274 receiving yards, and 66 touchdowns.
Allen's best season with the Chargers was in 2023, where he recorded 108 catches for 1,243 yards and 7 touchdowns, averaging a career-best 95.6 yards per game. However, his efficiency metrics showed some decline last year, with a career-low catch rate of 57.9% and yards per target of 6.1.
Despite these statistics, Allen is known for his exceptional route running and reliable hands. He has consistently been among the league leaders in receptions and receiving yards during his peak seasons. Allen also holds the team record for the most seasons with 100 or more catches, with five, including the team-record 108 in 2023.
Allen's return to the Chargers marks his 12th season with the team, after spending the 2024 season away. However, he is expected to play a different role this season given the Chargers' investment in new receiving talent and the emergence of Ladd McConkey as the team's main receiver.
Allen's career highlights and achievements with the Chargers include six Pro Bowl selections, nearly 1,000 career receptions, over 11,000 receiving yards, and a career-best 108 receptions and 1,243 yards in the 2023 season. These accomplishments make Allen one of the most productive and respected wide receivers in Chargers history.
Antonio Gates still holds the record for the most receptions in Chargers history with 955, while Lance Alworth has the most receiving touchdowns with 81. Antonio Gates also holds the record for the most receiving yards in Chargers history with 11,841, while Allen ranks second with 10,530.
Allen's one-year, $8.52 million deal with the Chargers was reported by NFL Network. It remains to be seen how Allen will fit into the Chargers' offensive scheme this season, but fans are excited to see him back in a Chargers uniform.
