Together, they clinched an impressive four German championships in 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1990. In 1997, the German powerhouse, Bayern Munich, brought back the coach from Bremerhaven to serve as Trapattoni’s assistant. Hebrecht Hainer, club president, paid tribute to Coordes, "FC Bayern owes Egon Coordes a lot: he was never in the spotlight but had a great influence and contributed to the successes in the 90s."

However, Coordes' journey as a head coach wasn't as fruitful. His stints in the first and second divisions at VfB Stuttgart (1986/87), Hamburger SV (1992), and Hannover 96 (1995/96) ended prematurely each time. He went on to coach in Austria, Switzerland, the Gulf region, and even briefly in Iran in 1999.

as a footballer, Coordes played 157 Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart. His coaching career began in his hometown of Bremerhaven long before his move to Munich.
