Football Player Denzel Perryman of the Chargers Accused of Illegal Firearm Possession

Denzel Perryman, a key linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers, found himself in legal trouble after a traffic stop in Los Angeles on August 2, 2025. The incident resulted in Perryman's arrest, with five firearms, including two assault-style rifles, being discovered in his vehicle.

Following his arrest, Perryman was held without bail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station, scheduled to appear in Inglewood Court on August 5, 2025. However, on the day of his court appearance, the Los Angeles district attorney decided not to file criminal charges against Perryman. He was released from police custody, with his record reflecting a detention rather than a full arrest.

During his time in custody, Perryman's coach, Jim Harbaugh, visited him and reported that Perryman was in good spirits. Harbaugh also emphasized that Perryman has no prior trouble and has a strong family. With the charges dropped, Perryman is expected to continue preparing for the upcoming NFL season with the Chargers.

The details of the charges against Perryman have not been disclosed, and the Chargers have not issued any further statements regarding his situation. Perryman's agent, Ron Butler, has released a statement expressing confidence that the matter will be resolved fairly and in accordance with the law.

Perryman, who entered his second season with the Chargers in 2025, is no stranger to the team. He previously played for them from 2015 to 2020. In the 2025 season, Perryman signed a one-year, $2.655 million contract with the Chargers and was projected to be a starter.

In his NFL career, Perryman has played a total of 119 games (99 starts), also spending time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. In the 2024 season, he registered 55 tackles and one sack in 11 starts for the Chargers, missing six games due to a groin injury. Perryman made the Pro Bowl in 2021 with a career-high 154 tackles for the Raiders. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 717 tackles, 7.5 sacks, five interceptions, and three fumble recoveries.

As of now, Perryman's court date still stands for Tuesday, but the specific charges and details of the case remain undisclosed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed Perryman's arrest at 9:41 p.m. local time on Friday night, and his booking was recorded at 10:06 p.m. following his arrest.
