Darwin Núñez Departs Liverpool for Al-Hilal

Liverpool's Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez has completed a permanent transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, ending a three-year stint at Anfield. The deal, reportedly worth around €53 million ($62 million), was finalised in August 2025.

Núñez joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for an initial £64 million. During his time at Liverpool, he made 143 appearances and scored 40 goals across all competitions. He was a key player in the club's successful 2024-25 Premier League campaign, contributing crucial moments, including a pair of stoppage-time goals against Brentford.

In the 2022-23 season, Núñez scored 15 goals in 42 appearances and was named the club's Standard Chartered Player of the Month twice. He improved his goal tally to 18 in the following campaign. However, his role in the starting lineup diminished in the 2024-25 season, with Núñez starting just eight Premier League matches.

Núñez's transfer to Al-Hilal comes as Liverpool actively seek a new attacking option. Reports suggest that the Reds have been engaged in a pursuit of Newcastle's Alexander Isak. Al-Hilal, on the other hand, have targeted a player with Premier League and Champions League experience to boost their domestic and continental ambitions.

In addition to Núñez, Theo Hernandez has also joined Al-Hilal ahead of the new season, having transferred from AC Milan. Both players will bring a wealth of experience and talent to the Saudi Arabian club, fitting their attacking style that emphasizes high intensity and fluid forward play.

Núñez's Liverpool Achievements

  • 143 total appearances
  • 40 goals in all competitions
  • FA Community Shield winner (2022)
  • Carabao Cup winner (2023)
  • Premier League winner (2024-25)

Everybody at Liverpool would like to thank Darwin Núñez for his contributions to the club. Liverpool's move for Núñez was subject to international clearance, and the club wished him and his family all the best for the future.
