Liverpool Say Goodbye to Darwin Núñez as He Joins Al Hilal

Liverpool Football Club has confirmed the permanent departure of striker Darwin Núñez to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. The transfer fee for the Uruguayan international is reportedly around £46.2 million (€53 million) fixed, potentially rising to £56.6 million (€65 million) with add-ons.

Núñez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in June 2022 for a reported £64-65.6 million (€75 million), scored 40 goals in 143 appearances over three seasons, including eight in the Premier League during the title-winning season last term.

Despite his mixed success with the Reds, Liverpool have managed to recuperate part of their investment, marking a significant financial loss for the club. The sale represents a major outgoing transfer fee returning around £46-56 million, but still well below their initial outlay.

Liverpool FC thanked Núñez for his contributions during his three seasons at Anfield and wished him and his family all the best for the future. The club is expected to look for a replacement attacker but will only invest if a player capable of improving the starting lineup becomes available.

Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is rumoured to be on the move, with the club having opened up a space in their forward line with Núñez's departure. Liverpool have also strengthened their forward line with the arrival of Hugo Ekitike.

The transfer window is still open, and Liverpool retain an interest in Newcastle's Alexander Isak, after a £110m bid was rejected last week. However, Isak is unlikely to feature in the opening game of the Premier League season at Aston Villa.

Núñez's transfer from Liverpool to Al Hilal is subject to international clearance. The Uruguayan striker will now look to make an impact in the Saudi Pro League, following the conclusion of his three-year tenure with Liverpool.

Núñez's departure from Liverpool Football Club represents a major outgoing transfer fee returning around £46-56 million, still significantly less than the initial amount spent on him. The club will now focus on finding a replacement attacker who can improve their starting lineup, with thetransfer window still open.
