Let's Talk Football: 39th Harburger Hallencup Kicks Off in Style

The 39th edition of Harburg's biggest football charity event, the Harburger Hallencup, kicked off at the Kersche last weekend, attracting a crowd of enthusiastic spectators and raking in a whopping 5000 euros in donations over the two-day event!

On the opening day on Saturday, the second men's tournament heated things up, with FC Süderelbe's 2nd team clinching the win. Harburger TB took second place, while Hellas United snagged third. The games were intense, with a few heated moments and brief time-outs, as recounted by co-organizer Dieter Tietz in an interview with our site.

Sunday brought a lively atmosphere for the first men's tournament, but the action grew heated on the court at times. "We want to support a good cause, so let's keep things civil," Dieter reminded everyone, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship.

In a close semi-final, FC Süderelbe edged out HSC, while Dersimspor defeated Mesopotamia. The final was a nail-biting affair, with Dersimspor ultimately defeating FC Süderelbe 5-4 on penalties. HSC snatched third place from Mesopotamia in another tense penalty shootout.

A new twist was added to the tournament on Sunday, with The HTB-Ravens cheerleaders making their debut, jumping in to entertain the crowd when a scheduled school match had to be cancelled due to holidays.

The Harburger Hallencup continues this weekend, January 18th and 19th, with the second round being played. This year's event expands to include Walking Football and the traditional school match, in addition to the Super-Senior and Old Men's categories.

On the sidelines of this event, other sports such as Walking Football will be introduced in the second round this weekend. Dieter Tietz, co-organizer of the Harburger Hallencup, acknowledged the importance of sportsmanship in all sports, even those beyond football.
