Football legend from Manchester United advocates for Bruno Fernandes to leave Ruben Amorim and join Real Madrid instead
In the early years of the Premier League, Gary Pallister, a former Manchester United defender, formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Steve Bruce. During his nine-year spell at Old Trafford, Pallister won four Premier Leagues in five years, as well as three FA Cups, a League Cup, a Cup Winners' Cup, and a European Super Cup.
Fast-forward to the present day, and Manchester United are currently a long way off emulating the success enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson. The team, currently managed by Ruben Amorim, is struggling, and there are reports that senior players are 'confused' and 'frustrated' by Amorim's tactical inflexibility.
One such player is Bruno Fernandes, who has been a constant figure in the Manchester United team. Despite the reported interest from abroad during the summer transfer window, Fernandes has shown loyalty by remaining at the club. However, his role under Amorim has been a subject of debate.
Fernandes, who is usually deployed in the No.10 role, has been playing slightly deeper this season due to Amorim's preference for a 3-4-3 formation. This adjustment has led to some frustration, with Fernandes cutting a frustrated figure during Manchester United's 3-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Pallister, who has since worked as a football analyst and commentator, believes that if Amorim played a 4-3-3 formation, he would get the best out of Fernandes. In fact, Pallister goes as far as to suggest that Fernandes may have been a star at teams like Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Despite these concerns, the fans of Manchester United reportedly love Fernandes. Pallister, too, is glad that Fernandes has stayed at the club. There was a lot of talk about a potential move for Fernandes to Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window, but he has chosen to stay and fight for the Red Devils.
Ruben Amorim, the ex-Sporting CP head coach, holds the unwanted record of having the lowest win percentage of any manager at Manchester United since the Second World War. With 18 wins and 20 losses in his 47 games in charge at Old Trafford, Amorim faces a challenging task to turn Manchester United's fortunes around.
Manchester United have won one of their opening five games across all competitions this season, and the pressure is mounting on Amorim. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how Fernandes' role evolves under Amorim, and whether the team can return to the glory days of the Ferguson era.
